Catch a Comet by the tail

Blog Sunday August 22nd August 2011

A very nice summers day gave way to a fine and warm summers evening, reasonably cloud free. This gave me a chance to catch up with Comet C/2009 PI Garradd which was just entering the constellation of Sagitta so well placed. At 00.30 local time (23.30ut) I had it on the monitor and it was looking very nice against a very starry background. I got a sketch down, sent my friend Andrew Robertson in Norfolk a text telling him of my success and shut up the observatory, got indoors for a shower and to bed at 2am, not good for work the next morning, but there you go, when its clear you have to take the punishment :¬)
